Over the years, many ‘Dabangg’s and ‘Happy New Year’s have come and gone. But it’s only in a blue moon that movies like Padman come out to dazzle us with not just witty dialogues but an inspiring story. Based on the true life of Arunachlam Muruganatham, the movie is a comedy-drama, releasing on 9th February, 2018. The plot of the movie has been inspired by a short story from one of India’s best-selling authors, Twinkle Khanna’s book, ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’. Twinkle Khanna, who is also one of the producers of the film, spoke at the Oxford Union in London and said that her primary motive behind making Padman is to “bring awareness to a subject that so far has been tucked away in shadows.” Considering the fact that the movie is on such a sensitive issue, it was extremely brave of the entire team to pursue it.
Akshay Kumar taking up the #PadMan challenge
Muruganatham had revolutionized sanitary health in rural India by inventing a machine to produce low-cost sanitary pads. For his feat, he has been awarded by various institutions in India and abroad. Akshay has beautifully depicted his role, as we can see from the trailer. While you should go watch the movie just for its novel concept, the stellar cast and the well-written script add to it’s charm. The best part is, despite carrying such an important message, the movie tries to be not preachy. Instead it’s packed with funny moments, bits of intense drama and even romance.
