Tribute to Sridevi

The ‘naagin’ of bollywood, Sridevi Kapoor has passed away owing to a cardiac arrest leaving the entire nation with a hollow in their hearts which is never to be filled again. One of the best actress of her times, Sridevi was one such person, who always did justice to every role that she did on the silver screen, be it her first film Solva Sawan or her very last MOM. She also is the recipient of five filmfare awards for hindi, telegu and tamil movies. Not only this, in 2013, she was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award the ‘Padmashri’. If one goes on writing her list of achievements, then it would be impossible to do so in one such post.

Sridevi was born in the cracker producing town of Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu at her father’s native place on 13 August,1963. Her father’s name was Ayappan and he was from Tamil Nadu itself. Her mother on the other hand, was Telegu and hailed from the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

She started her acting career at the very young age of four, as a child artist in a tamil movie Thunaivan. She also made her Bollywood debut, as a child artist in the movie Julie in 1975 when she was only 11 years old. And finally she made her lead role debut in the movie Solva Sawan in 1979. She soared to popularity with the 1983 movie Himmatwala starring opposite superstar Jeetendra. From then on, there was no looking back for this gorgeous and glamorous lady. She later went on to do highly successful films like Chandni opposite Rishi Kapoor, Mr.India opposite Anil Kapoor and other films like Masterji, Waqt ki awaaz, Naya Kadam, Tohfa, Nagina, Chalbaaz, lamhe, Khuda Gawah, Laadla, Judai and numerous others.

Over the recent years, she had not been a part of celluloid for quite sometime but, its Sridevi after all. She made a comeback to the cinematic universe with a bang with her highly critically acclaimed film English Vinglish in 2012. The film recieved a lot of praises and her acting recieved high accolades from critics as well as the general public.

The last film that she starred in was the Hindi thriller MOM released in 2017.

Sridevi had two marriages. She was first married to the Disco Dancer of Bollywood, Mithun Chakraborty 1985. But, owing to some differences, they both divorced 3 years later in 1988. Then in 1996, she married producer Boney Kapoor and they had two children together as well.

In February 2018, she went to Dubai to attend a wedding where she suffered a massive cardiac arrest leading to her death. According to her family, she never had any history of any cardiac problems and thus, this came as a surprise for them and they consider it highly unusual.

Whatever be the reason of her death, the matter of the fact is that Sridevi, the glamour queen of bollywood is no more with us. Nothing can be more painful than the realisation that she has left us for the heavenly abode. We have lost one of the most eminent personalities of the nation who won us accolades through her work. She might not be with us now, but her work and her aura still lingers around like the smell of a deer musk.

Thank You Ma’am for all those laughter, cries and thrills that you have made us experience through the medium of your work. We will be forever indebted to you.

May your soul Rest In Peace.
