Highest Paid Bollywood Actors

Bollywood is the lifeline of Indian masses. The ones we see on the silver screen are not mere actors, but Gods for many. We might not realise but whatever we do or eat or wear or think- everything is influenced by Bollywood in some way or the other. Yes, it is true that the movie business is dwindling and people do not have the time as before to constantly show love to their favourite actors. But does that mean the actors have come down to the streets? Absolutely not. They are still taking home large bucks and let me tell you why:

Shahrukh Khan:

Earnings: $38 Million

He is the King of Bollywood and his paycheck says that too. For the last two-three years, SRK has not been that active in the movie-front, but nevertheless, the hearts that beat for him have not come down. He is also the proud co-owner of Red Chillies Entertainment alongside his wife Gauri Khan. Plus he is quite upfront in the endorsement of big business houses such as D’Decor, Pepsi, Nokia, Hyundai, Dish Tv etc. Moreover, his recent movies such as Raees, Fan, Dear Zindagi have provided the dynamism in his reign over Bollywood.

Salman Khan:

Earnings: $37 Million

The Khan whose name keeps on popping up in controversies and whose fan base keeps on competing with that of King Khan. He is the Bhai of Bollywood and his financial statements prove that his demand in the Bolly-World is still high even though he has hit the half-century. Salman has released three-four light-hearted flicks in the past few years to remind the masses of his reign. But movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hain gave some additional boost to his income level. Moreover, Salman has been associated for the past eight years straight with Bigg Boss, one of the highest grossing reality shows of India.

Akshay Kumar:

Earnings: $35.5 Million

Akshay is one whose work keeps on piling up and thanks to this, he has been cashing in quite a lot in the recent years with movies like Airlift and Rustom. He was also the face of Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi for quite a long time, proving once again that age is no barrier for calisthenics and being active. Then there are his endorsements such as Everyday Batteries, deodorants and beverage drinks. On a personal note, what I like about this man is that his movies in the past four-five years have not focused just on earning big bucks. They have been creating awareness about issues and bringing into light cases which shook the nation. So altogether, they have been enlightening for us.

Aamir Khan:

Earnings: $12.5 Million

The most non-controversial actors of Bollywood in the present generation, Aamir knows how to literally earn for his efforts. He is involved in very few projects but once they are out it feels as if Aamir keeps on saving energy to pour them out and make the movie a masterpiece. We have seen him chiseled in Dhoom 3, we saw him bulking up into a grumbling Haryanvi father in Dangal. His experiments have always proved beneficial for him and we can’t agree more.

Deepika Padukone:

Earnings: $11 Million

This beauty had become an instant favourite from her debut movie Om Shanti Om alongside Shahrukh Khan. Her roles had been quite bold and elegant in movies such as Ramleela and the recent hit Padmaavat. Then she went ahead to feature in XXX: Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel which made her popular worldwide. She is also tied with both global giants such as Nike, Vogue Eyewear and the local ones.

Priyanka Chopra:

Earnings: $10 Million

The Desi Girl of Bollywood became a worldwide sensation with ABC’s Quantico and being part of Hollywood movies such as Baywatch, Planes, the worldwide hit The Jungle Book and the upcoming Isn’t It Romantic? At home, after acting as the innocent but autistic Jhilmil Chatterji in Barfi! and portraying the life of Indian female boxer MC Mary Kom in her biopic, Priyanka’s stardom increased manifold. She came to be recognised as somebody who is dynamic in her choice of roles. Yes, she had experimented before too with the kind of roles she showed on screen, but these two movies were the benchmarks. And not to forget, she is now the ambassador of the North-Eastern state of Assam.

Kangana Ranaut:

(Source: the Week)

Earnings: $10 Million

Kangana is currently the most versatile actress that Bollywood had for a long time. She had been bubbly in Tanu Weds Manu series, the drug-addicted and conflicted diva in Fashion, a mutant in Krrish 3 and not to forget, the coming-out-of-her-shell Rani in Queen. Lately, she has been wrapped in controversies and although it had somewhat affected her career, her net worth is still higher than many actresses. We will definitely have to watch out for her upcoming Manikarnika which tells the tale of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. She is one of the very few actresses who achieved such heights and accolades in a short span of time.

So, the final verdict is: acting doesn’t bring home the entire cash amount. It is these endorsements, the thirty-second ads that keep on pestering in between our favourite shows, which are responsible for their 7+ digits in their bank statements. Moreover, if we look properly, none of the actors has ever portrayed only one kind of role in all movies. They have been experimental, stretching their limits as far as they can, and feasting the eyes and hearts of millions of fans. Their net worth is what they actually deserve for their efforts in raising the bar of movies in Indian Cinema.
